October 8 this year was the first time that we officially commemorate our co-founder, Harold Robles, as a team, since his passing, thanks to the easing of the Covid-19 regulations. It was an opportunity to also remember one of our staff, Ms Xoliswa Mhobo who passed away this year after a long and protracted illness. It was an exciting feeling to see the whole team, from the Board, the facilitators, the Management and Harold’s friends and supporters convene for this special occasion.
As a family we came together to hear beautiful, funny but touching stories about our departed humanitarian. Harold was clearly a person with a heart for people and had a special bond with everyone he encountered. Our CEO, Mr George Arrey opened the floor with his experience with Harold, followed by Mrs Honjiswa Conana, on behalf of the SA board, and Mrs Regina Eggink on behalf of the Board of the Friends of the Health Promoters, the Netherlands who all gave a memorable account of their experience with him. We also remembered Mrs Xoliswa Mhobo, our colleague who passed away in August this year from a protracted illness. It was good to be together as team. After the official ceremony we walked to the Stellenbosch River nearby to throw flowers in the therein, as a gesture of honor and remembrance of the departed. Thereafter, we headed to a beautiful location in the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve where Harold habitually visited while in SA, to have lunch as a team. All in all, it was an emotional but also wonderful day to finally be able to freely gather and remember Dr h.c. Harold Robles after such a long covid period.
